To celebrate Júlio Pomar’s 88th birthday, the Escola Artística António Arroio came to the Atelier-Museu to present the work produced by students from the ‘Visual Production of Shows’ course based on the works exhibited in ‘Around the collection’, particularly the series ‘Mascarados de Pirenópolis’. In this series, the painter alludes to the festival of the Divine Holy Spirit, held in the city of Pirenópolis in Brazil. During the ritual, the typical masked figure dresses in clothing made from whatever can be found, often in intense colours, decorated with paper flowers. The figure wears a mask alluding to the ox, the leopard or the devil, hinting at rituals and sacrificial killings. These figures were recreated by the students at the Escola Artística António Arroio, with guidance from their teachers, as part of their Projects and Technologies, Art Management, Physical Education and Video/Audiovisual classes, and were presented to the painter as a tableau vivant on the day of his birthday.

The work was produced in collaboration with the Education Service at the Atelier-Museu, and included a set of guided tours of the exhibition, a talk which the museum gave at the school, artistic workshops and the production of pictorial and documentary materials which were made into a DVD (given to the painter) and a video documentary reporting on the occasion.
