Compilation of the critical texts of Júlio Pomar, published from 1942 to 1960.

‘Notas sobre uma arte útil’ (Notes on a Useful Art), the first volume of his Parte Escrita (Written Part), is made up of political texts written before 1960 (including those of his neorealist period), in which the linkage of art to its utility is made evident. Among other functions, art and writing allow for denunciation, resistance, social commentary and for the conveyance of ideological currents. During this period, Pomar wrote mostly about other artists and group exhibitions, evaluating their impacts within the national context.
