The Atelier-Museu seeks to provide aesthetic experiences based on an effective encounter with works of art, and welcomes the participation of all visitors.
As such, the Education Service is an important part of the museum’s programme and is key to its overall dynamic. It is involved in the preparations for every show, from assembly to closure, with a view to devising a specific set of educational offerings and supplementary features – guided tours, workshops, experimental exercises – taking into account the content of the exhibitions and the specific nature of their audience.
By seeing the museum as a space for learning and exchanging experiences, the Education Service offers a range of experimental and pedagogical activities with the aim of sharing knowledge, fostering contact with art, and encouraging visitors to take a critical stance in relation to the works on display, thus emphasising the importance of artistic education in shaping each and every human being. For this purpose, the activities developed promote a direct relationship with the world of art and attempt to bring the participants closer to the process and artistic creation.
In parallel to the activities and workshops held at the Atelier-Museu, the Education Service develops partnerships with schools and associations, allowing it a wider scope and greater long-term effectiveness.
Education Service Pack (see archive)
As a working tool, the file provided on the Atelier-Museu’s website includes photographic documentation of the day-to-day life of the museum, together with the activities carried out by the Education Service. This pack is updated on a regular basis, allowing the work that has been initiated to be put to further use by anyone who is interested in doing so. It presents certain aspects of the work in the atelier and educational materials in the form of ten postcards relating to works by Júlio Pomar, accompanied by texts by the painter João Queiroz that expand upon the meaning of the pieces. The workshops are presented according to their stated purposes and pictures taken while they were running.
